Sermon Audio June 12: Pastor Asmus: "Counting On the Faithful One"
Few statements in Scripture are as humanly compelling as the commitment Ruth expresses to her mother-in-law Naomi when Naomi tries to encourage Ruth to remain in her home country and not follow Naomi back to Israel. Israel was Naomi’s home; Moab was Ruth’s home. It seems much more likely that Ruth would find new family fulfillment there in the aftermath of her husband’s untimely death. But Ruth would not leave her mother-in-law. She pledged to remain with her even if it meant adopting a new way of life and a new homeland.
Loyalty and commitment such as Ruth’s are rarely found even in the best of men or women. What a fitting setting for us to witness God’s faithfulness to you and me!
“(Jesus said) ‘Come, you who are blessed by My Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited Me in, I needed clothes and you clothed Me, I was sick and you looked after Me, I was in prison and you came to visit Me.’
. .‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these, you did for Me.’ - from Matt 25:34-40
